Out-of-District Transfers

Out-of-district transfers include students who reside outside of our Abernathy ISD boundaries who would like to attend school within AISD.

Who can apply for an Out-of-District Transfer?

AISD welcomes students from all other surrounding districts. Parents must complete an AISD Transfer Student Application to begin the process for being considered to attend Abernathy ISD schools.  The application is located on any AISD campus as well as our website in this Student Transfer section.

Out-of-District Transfer Application Process

  1. Complete a Transfer Student Application for each child being considered to attend a AISD school.  The application link is located  on this page.  Applications are also located at any school office and at the administration building.  An application must be filled out for each child being considered for transfer.
  2. After the application is completed, it must be turned in to the school in which the student will attend.  If the parent has children attending more than one AISD campus, each application must be taken to the appropriate grade level campus of each child.
  3. A parent is required to provide the student's attendance, discipline, and academic records (including state assessment records) from the last school attended for the Student Transfer Review Committee to consider.
  4. The Student Transfer Review Committee will determine if the student qualifies for transfer into AISD, and forward their recommendation to the Superintendent who will make the final decision.
  5. If the transfer application is accepted, the campus principal will notify the parent to proceed with enrollment process.  Approved student transfers shall be granted for one regular school year at a time.
  6. If the transfer application is denied and the student is currently enrolled, the parent must withdraw the student and return to their home campus.

ABERNATHY I.S.D. TRANSFER POLICY
The Student Transfer Review Committee will review the following information to determine whether a transfer is accepted or denied:

a. discipline records
b. attendance records
c. academic records
d. state assessment results

The committee will evaluate each situation on an individual basis to ensure that the addition of a transfer student to a particular class or program will not cause a financial or personnel hardship for Abernathy I.S.D.

Student transfers are considered valid until the end of the school year in which the student enrolled.  All transfers will be reviewed toward the end of the school year and a determination will be made by the Student Transfer Review Committee as to whether the transfer student may remain enrolled in A.I.S.D.  Students who have been enrolled as a transfer students for one school year or more will be accepted for ensuing school years given that the student remains in good standing regarding discipline, attendance, grades, state assessment, as well as A.I.S.D. continues to have available space and available instructional staff.  However, if these standards are not met, the transfer may be revoked.

The Abernathy I.S.D. does not discriminate in its transfer process on the basis of race, sex, religion, color, national origin, ancestral language, or disability.

All completed transfer applications should be returned the campus in which the student would attend school.

Children of Employees: Any child of an Abernathy I.S.D. employee will be accepted as a transfer student if the employee lives outside of the Abernathy I.S.D. attendance zone.  For the sake of transfers, a child of a substitute will not qualify as “children of employees.”  If employment is ended, the student becomes subject to regular transfer criteria.
